Infant attachment- not all about the mum…

There is a line of thinking within mental health and child developmental work that emphasises above all else the importance of the attachment relationship for future physical and psychological well-being. People who identify as having an attachment-based therapeutic style often talk as if the sole determinant of this relationship is the carer’s sensitivity. However this paper http://fn.bmj.com/content/99/1/F70.full.pdf adds to the growing body of evidence (see my Prezi from 2012 http://prezi.com/biz0mnxbmdbp/attachment-and-biology/ for a summary) that attachment has, in some circumstances, strong biological determinants.

We will post again on this after the winter meeting, when there will be some fascinating talks about infant mental health.
